FAQ

Questions, answered straight

What's the difference between the skill check and the full assessment?

The skill check is 5 quick questions and takes about 3 minutes. No account needed to start or to see your result; leave an email at the end only if you want the report sent to you. The full assessment is 20 questions across multiple choice, short answer, and real code; Claude AI grades it in about 30 minutes and builds your personalised learning plan. Both are free.

Is Square 1 really free right now?

Yes. Cohort 01 early access is free with no credit card required. When paid plans open, founding rates are $29.90/mo on the 3-month track, $19.90/mo on the 6-month track, $15.90/mo on the 9-month track — and founding members lock their rate for life. It never goes up on you. Once founding seats close, new members join at the standard $34.90/mo rate.

How does the AI code review actually work?

Every project you submit is read line-by-line by Claude against the project brief and a marking rubric. You get a score out of 100, what you did well, and specific fixes — not a generic tip or a video to rewatch.

How much time do I need?

About 45 minutes a day. Tracks are self-paced and typically run 3 to 9 months depending on the plan you choose and where the assessment places you.

Do I need coding experience to start?

No. The assessment finds your level first, and the curriculum adapts from complete beginner through to advanced — you start where you actually are, not where a syllabus assumes.

What do I actually walk away with?

10+ real projects deployed to GitHub with live URLs, a verified skill report, and a portfolio an employer can open, run, and check — proof, not a certificate PDF.

Which subject should I pick?

There are 21 subjects, and each maps to a real role with a real salary range — AI Engineer, ML Engineer, Data Scientist, Security Engineer, and more. If you're unsure, the free 3-minute skill check recommends a starting track.

Is this videos, or actual coding?

Neither. It's 100% code and zero videos — you learn by building, every line you write gets AI feedback, and Nova (your AI tutor) knows your code, your weak topics, and your current lesson.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The 'AI for your work' tracks are 100% no-code — you learn to use ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini well in the job you already do. The career tracks are where you'd write code; the work tracks never ask you to.

Is this really for non-technical people?

Yes. There are role tracks for marketers, finance, founders, teachers, PMs, sales and more, all taught in plain English. You bring your job; we make you sharper at it with AI.

Which AI tools does it cover?

ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini, covered even-handedly. The point isn't one vendor — the prompting and judgment you build transfer across all of them.

How is the work track different from the career courses?

The career tracks make you job-ready as an engineer or data professional and involve real code. The work tracks make you more productive with AI in the role you already have — no code, just your day-to-day work done faster and better.

What does “graded by Nova” mean for a no-code course?

You practise on real work scenarios — a marketing brief, a finance model, a lesson plan — and Nova, your AI tutor, scores the prompts you write and gives specific feedback. It's hands-on practice with a coach, not slides to click through.
