What the RBI’s FREE-AI report asks banks to build.
The report is a set of recommendations, not a binding direction yet. It still sets the agenda: a board AI policy, an AI inventory, and training for everyone who uses AI.
AI governance the board can sign
FREE-AI recommendation 10 asks for AI governance competencies at board and C-suite level, and recommendation 14 for a board-approved AI policy. Leaders learn enough to set the risk appetite and question a model.
Reviewing AI-underwritten loans
SBI’s managing director said the bank used AI to underwrite nearly Rs 1 lakh crore of MSME loans in FY26. Officers spend their time on edge cases, overrides and early-warning flags rather than the first read.
Checking, not keying
SBI reports using large language models on cheques up to Rs 10,000, about a quarter of its cheque volume, with a team sampling the output. Operations staff learn how to sample, spot errors and escalate.
The inventory, the incidents and the disclosures
FREE-AI asks for an AI inventory updated at least every six months, AI incident reporting, and AI disclosures in annual reports. Compliance teams learn what to record about each model and how to write it up.

Fits when your company is standardising on Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Gemini or AWS and wants people trained on that tool.
Watch for a vendor course teaches the tool, not your workflow; non-technical teams usually need both.

How much does AI training for a bank team cost in India?
Live online courses are ₹6,599 a person for a team of five or more. A four-week Sprint that builds one AI workflow with your team is ₹2,19,999, and twelve weeks of Train + build is ₹6,49,999. In-person days are ₹43,999 a day on request, plus travel. Prices are plus tax where it applies.
What does the RBI’s FREE-AI report say about training?
Recommendation 10 says regulated entities should develop AI capacity and governance competencies for the board and C-suite, and structured, continuous training, upskilling and reskilling for the wider workforce who use AI. The report, published on 13 August 2025, is a set of recommendations; we found no binding direction implementing it as of October 2026.
Do you train boards and senior management?
Yes: a short live online course for directors and senior managers on AI governance, risk appetite and what to ask of a model, and an in-person day on request. It follows FREE-AI recommendations 10 and 14, on board competencies and a board-approved AI policy.
Is there a banking-specific AI certificate in India?
The Indian Institute of Banking & Finance runs a self-paced Certificate Course in AI and ML for Bankers. Its exam fee is Rs 1,200 for members and Rs 1,700 for non-members, plus taxes (IIBF rules, August 2026). It certifies individuals; our training is live, for a whole team, built on your bank’s own work.
Does the training cover the DPDP Act?
Yes, as it applies to AI tools. The DPDP Rules 2025 were notified in November 2025, and the duties on notice, consent, security safeguards and breach notification apply from 13 May 2027. The training shows teams how to check what an AI tool does with customer data. It is not legal advice.
What does a Sprint build for a bank?
One workflow your team picks, built with your people inside your own accounts over four weeks: for example drafting credit appraisal notes from a checklist, sorting customer grievances, or building the first version of an AI inventory. It ends with a pilot and a 30-question test, and the fee of ₹2,19,999 counts toward Train + build if you continue within 30 days.
