AI training for banks in Sri Lanka
Square1 Ai trains bank and finance teams in Sri Lanka to use AI in credit, customer service, risk and compliance: live online on Zoom from LKR 22,500 a person, or in your offices from LKR 150,000 a day for up to 20 people. Every exercise uses the work your teams already do, inside the rules a Sri Lankan bank works under.
One published price for every team, no team discount. Plus tax where it applies.
Where AI is already changing bank work in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan banks are putting AI into lending and service now. The training starts with the roles it touches first.
Reviewing what the model decided
Commercial Bank launched AI underwriting for SME loans in July 2025, and Sampath Bank’s Sampath Select gives AI-scored instant personal loans. Analysts spend less time on the first read and more on exceptions, overrides and explaining a decision to the customer.
Working beside a chatbot
People’s Bank answers questions on its website with an AI chatbot in English, Sinhala and Tamil. Staff take the cases the bot cannot close, so they need to know what it was asked and where it goes wrong.
Putting AI tools through your controls
Under CBSL Banking Act Directions No. 16 of 2021, an AI vendor is a third-party provider inside your technology risk framework. Teams learn to assess a tool, its data flows and its failure modes before it reaches customers.
Automating the report, not the judgement
Banks are running analytics-led fraud monitoring and automating incident reporting. Teams learn to build those workflows with no-code tools, with a person signing off every decision.
The rules your training has to respect
The Central Bank has no AI-specific direction yet. Two rules already decide how an AI tool can be used in a Sri Lankan bank, and the exercises are built inside them.
- CBSL Banking Act Directions No. 16 of 2021 on technology risk management and resilience, which covers third-party providers
- The Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022: from 1 January 2027, impact assessments and breach notification apply to AI tools that read customer data
- The Governor’s call in September 2025 for responsible and inclusive AI in finance, with attention to privacy, bias and governance

Four ways Sri Lankan companies train a team in AI.
Each one fits a different need. Most companies end up mixing two.
- Route 1
Open courses at a university or institute
Fits when a few people need a certificate from a name your sector knows, such as SLIIT or the University of Moratuwa.
Watch for weekend schedules, one person at a time, and courses built for individuals rather than your team’s work.
- Route 2
A corporate trainer for a day
Fits when you want one hands-on workshop, online or on site in Colombo.
Watch for what happens after the day: most workshops leave no graded record of who can now do what.
- Route 3
Vendor courses for the tools you already use
Fits when your company is standardising on Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Gemini or AWS and wants people trained on that tool.
Watch for a vendor course teaches the tool, not your workflow; non-technical teams usually need both.
- Route 4
A team trained and measured together (Square1 Ai)
Fits when you want every person placed by a test, taught live, graded on real work and measured again at week 12.
Watch for it takes a few hours a week from each person, and the results depend on them doing the work.
AI training for banks in Sri Lanka: your questions.
How much does AI training for a bank team cost in Sri Lanka?
Live online courses are LKR 22,500 a person for a team of five or more, and in-person training is LKR 150,000 a day for up to 20 people. A four-week Sprint that builds one AI workflow with your team is LKR 750,000, and twelve weeks of Train + build is LKR 2,250,000. One published price for every bank, plus tax where it applies.
Which bank teams should start first?
Usually the teams AI already touches: SME and retail credit, the contact centre, and risk and compliance. A two-minute readiness test places every person, so a credit officer and an information security lead do not sit the same course.
Does the training cover the Personal Data Protection Act?
Yes, as it applies to AI tools. The Act’s processing rules and its duties on impact assessments and breach notification take effect on 1 January 2027, under Gazette 2498/16 of 22 July 2026. The training shows teams how to check what an AI tool does with customer data. It is not legal advice: your Data Protection Officer and counsel decide.
Does the Central Bank have rules on AI?
Not an AI-specific direction, as of October 2026. Banking Act Directions No. 16 of 2021 on technology risk apply to AI tools as they do to any technology and third-party provider, and the Governor called for responsible and inclusive AI adoption in September 2025.
Can you train our staff in our offices?
In-person training in Sri Lanka is LKR 150,000 a day for up to 20 people, with no travel added, as one day or a series of days. Live online sessions run on Sri Lanka time, which never changes its clocks.
What does a Sprint build for a bank?
One workflow your team picks, built with your people inside your own accounts over four weeks: for example drafting credit memos from a checklist, sorting customer complaints by type and urgency, or preparing an incident report from system logs. It ends with a pilot and a 30-question test, and the fee of LKR 750,000 counts toward Train + build if you continue within 30 days.
Is this a university course?
No. Square1 Ai is a training company registered in Sri Lanka. An instructor teaches live, and Nova, our AI tutor, grades every exercise. If a few people need a university certificate, the University of Moratuwa and SLIIT run open AI courses for individuals, compared further down this page.
Train your bank’s teams in AI, measured from week one.
