Your options

Four ways into cyber security in India

Each fits a different person. The right one depends on whether you need a degree, a classroom, a certification or a portfolio.

  1. Route 1

    A BTech, MTech or MSc

Fits when You are starting out after 12th, or want a degree for the long run.

Watch for Two to four years, and the syllabus is set years ahead of the tools security teams use now.

  2. Route 2

    A large online certificate programme

Fits when You want a known institute's name on the certificate and a long, structured course.

Watch for Ask for the full price with GST and any EMI interest, and how many hours are hands-on labs.

  3. Route 3

An industry certification on your own

Fits when You are disciplined and want a credential employers search for, such as Security+, CEH or ISC2 CC.

Watch for A certification proves you know the syllabus, not that you have done the work; pair it with projects.

  4. Route 4

    A live online bootcamp

Fits when You are working and want security projects you can show, taught live after office hours.

Watch for Square1 Ai's bootcamps are new: the first cohorts have not graduated, so there is no placement rate yet.

Questions

Questions people in India ask about cyber security

Which cyber security course is best in India?

It depends on what you need. BITS Pilani Digital's 35-week certificate lists INR 1,25,000 plus GST, Hacker School's 300-hour live course lists ₹47,000 plus GST, and Google's self-paced certificate costs US$20 a month. If you are working and want hands-on projects an employer can check, Square1 Ai's twelve-week live bootcamps start at ₹8,799.

How much does a cyber security course cost in India?

A Square1 Ai live cyber security bootcamp starts at ₹8,799 and a self-paced course, such as SOC Analyst Essentials or Web Application Security, at ₹2,899: the Indian founding price, until 1 December. Other providers' fees are in the table above.

Are there free cyber security courses in India?

Yes. The Skill India Digital Hub lists a free 10-hour Cybersecurity course from the Tech Mahindra Foundation. Square1 Ai's certification practice is free: practice questions, timed mock exams and study plans for Security+, ISC2 CC, SC-900, CySA+ and CISSP, with a free 20-question diagnostic for each. The live bootcamps are paid.

What does a cyber security analyst earn in India?

Payscale India puts the median base salary for a cyber security analyst at ₹5.8 lakh a year, with the middle half between ₹3.9 lakh and ₹9.4 lakh. A cyber security engineer's median is ₹9 lakh and a penetration tester's ₹5.1 lakh.

Do I need a degree to work in cyber security in India?

Not always. Many security roles ask for proof you can do the work: a certification such as CompTIA Security+, CEH or ISC2 CC, and projects you can walk an interviewer through. Some employers still filter on a BTech or BSc. The bootcamps ask for no degree; each bootcamp page says what you need before you start.

Which cyber security certification should I start with?

If you are new, ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) or CompTIA Security+ are the usual first certifications; Microsoft SC-900 suits people heading into Microsoft 365 and Azure work. Square1 Ai's free practice for each tells you where you stand with a 20-question diagnostic before you study.

Can I learn cyber security online in India while working full time?

Yes. The live sessions start at 5:30 PM India time on weekdays, after most office hours, with full-day sessions at weekends, and the work between sessions is graded by Nova, Square1 Ai's AI tutor, whenever you submit it. Plan for about fifteen hours a week across the twelve weeks.

Does the bootcamp guarantee a job?

No. No placement rate is published because the first cohorts have not graduated. You leave with 10 projects, a recorded defence of your work an employer can watch, and a hiring plan worked through with your instructor.

How do I pay from India?

Reserving a seat is free and takes your name, email and country. Nothing is charged until the start date is confirmed and you say yes. Payment is by card in US dollars through a Sri Lankan bank gateway, so the card needs international payments switched on, which most Indian banks let you do in their app.
